new rope stamp

This is the third stamp like this I have made. This is one of my favorite motifs. I measured out 4 quadrants on a 4" square of wood, cut my first piece of rope to fit then used that piece of rope as a guide for cutting the others.

I used E6000 just because it was starting to thicken and dry but any waterproof mastic will work.

I used this scrap triangle and attached as a handle.

I have used this stamp with paint, printing ink and wax for batik.

  1. Looks great. I expect you are excited to try it out. I used to run a workshop on making stamps like this and with polystrene you could draw into and stamp with- great fun!

  2. Love the simplicity, and everything needed is so easy to find. Gads, it's been awhile since I fired up
my wax pot... it's waiting patiently, maybe after the holidays. Happy Thanksgiving!

  3. Hi Beth, I sure can see how useful this stamp could be! If you use a rope stamp in wax, can you switch back to using it for paint? I'm imagining the rope sucking up wax like a wick. Or, is that why you've made multiple stamps? (One for each medium). No matter how you use this one, I'm sure it'll be fun!

    1. I'm betting if I squeezed enough wax out you could use it on paint or ink but since I have three (one with a missing piece of rope) I would probably have a dedicated one for ink or paint.
